Hivos grants fellowships for the Arab Internet Governance Forum

Hivos run a contest amongst participants enrolled in Hivos/Diplo Internet Governance Capacity Building Programme (IGCBP). Giving opportunity to participants to be constructive and share their views vis-à-vis an issue that matters to them and their region was the momentum behind this contest.

After five weeks of introduction on Internet Governance modules and theories, holding intensive discussions and raising controversial questions, Hivos invited IGCBP participants to apply what they have learned in theory. The challenge for them was to pick up a topic discussed during the training and expound on it through linking the subject to national and/or regional context and proposing a concrete policy solution. Originality of ideas was one of the main criteria for the evaluation and selection process of participants to be granted fellowships for the second edition of the Arab Internet Governance Forum: Partners for Development, Algiers 1-3 October 2013.

Participants have tackled a wide range of Internet governance topics mainly related to infrastructure basket (telecommunication infrastructure and cyber security), legal basket (privacy and data protection), economic basket (consumer protection and economic value of Internet freedom) and development basket (digital divide, Internet access and telecommunication policy and regulation).
